1986 Chevrolet Squad Car Why do you call this car the "Mary Kay Squad", you ask. It's due to the unique nature of the paint on this squad. In 1986 the color of the paint was supposed to deep red or maroon. However, Chevy couldn't make the color just right, only close. But when the squads hit the street, the color quickly faded into a pink or orange tint. Some of the squads were very pink. The squad depicted in these pics isn't too bad. Therefor the nickname, "Mary Kay" came from the pink color of the squads. As a matter of fact, the color of the 1986 Chevrolet was an influencing factor in determing the vendor for the 1995 squad cars. At that time, Ford could not do a maroon paint color, they could only get close. It was decided then to go with Chevrolet who could do a maroon color. |
