We as a Trooper's Association have a vested interest in the quality of the candidates who are trying to become Trooper's.  We have always been proud of the quality of people working the road as Minnesota State Patrol Trooper's.     Although we have somewhat of a biased opinion, we have some of the best officers that Law Enforcement has to offer, and we intend to keep it that way.

 Current Employment Opportunities

Here are some of minimum requirements to become a State Trooper:
   1.   Be a U.S. citizen.
   2.   Possess a valid Driver's License from any State.
   3.   Be P.O.S.T. certified or eligible for certification.
   4.   Minimum of 2 years post high school education in Law Enforcement.
   5.   Pass a written test.
   7.   Pass an extensive background investigation.
   8.   Pass the Physical Fitness Test (updated: January - 2007)
   9.   Pass a psychological exam.
   10.  Pass a medical exam.

Our process is rather long...from start to finish it takes anywhere from 9 to 12 months, just to get to the "Rookie" School.   The powers to be are looking at our process and trying to find ways to make it shorter.

But why should I even consider applying for the State Patrol.  There are hundreds of applications for very few positions.     Besides, my local department is hiring soon.  I think I should wait.    Those are valid points.  Click <here> for some reasons to apply with the Minnesota State Patrol.
