Sixty years ago, the Minnesota State Patrol would swoop down on speeders in hot Model A Fords and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Restored examples of those two vehicles are owned by and have been restored by the Minnesota. State Patrol and are exhibited by a retired State Patrol Trooper. They are veterans of many parades and celebrations throughout Minnesota, and while they are not exhibited for judging purposes, they have been recognized in many fairs and events. The Model A Ford and Harley Davidson motorcycle are both 1930 models, and are typical of those first used by the Minnesota State Patrol after its formation in 1929
The 1930 Model A Ford and 1930 Harley Davidson motorcycle are typical of those first used by the Minnesota State Patrol after its formation in 1929. The Model A is powered by a 4 cylinder, 24 horsepower engine and was capable of 60 MPH. The Harley has a 9.45 horsepower V twin engine and was capable of 90 MPH. By comparison, today's Chevrolet cruisers are powered by fuel injected 5.7 liter engines and are capable of speeds in excess of 150 MPH. The vehicles were restored by, and are owned by, the Minnesota State Patrol Troopers Association and the State Patrol Supervisors Association.
