Speeding...

How much over the speed limit can I go?

State Trooper's, Deputy Sheriff's and Police Officers are asked this question all of the time.

Let's look at speed in terms of the law and see how it should apply to each and every one of us.  First, what colors are used for speed limit signs?  Black and white, right?  Black and white, a clearly defined set of parameters.  Speed limit signs don't have a (+) (-) on them do they?  No, of course not.  The limit that is posted is the fastest that you can go by law.  Engineers have taken great pains to study the roadway and determine the safest possible speed for the greatest portion of the population.

People say that it's okay to go over the limit a little.  Is this true?  NO!  For example, you are in the grocery store and you are by the bulk candy.  How many of you would take a piece of candy and eat it?  Or how about those little packages of gum in the check-out lanes?  How many of you would take one of those little packages and put it in your pocket without paying for it?  Really, how much does that one piece of candy or package of gum cost?  A penny?  5 cents? Even a quarter?

We would imagine that each of you wouldn't even think of taking that one piece of candy or package of gum because that would be theft.  Right?

So why is it okay to go over the speed limit just a few miles?  Because everyone else does?  Do you really think that this is a valid argument?

Traffic safety starts with you.  It doesn't begin after 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 people start it...no, it starts with YOU!

Please help us by following the speed limit, wearing your seatbelt and driving aware...your life and the person next to you depends on it!
