M-16 Training

M-16 Firing Line [Click for Larger Image]During the fall of 1999, Trooper's from the Rochester and St. Cloud Districts began to receive training and instruction in the use and care of M-16, A-1's.  The rifles were purchased through the military.    All of the rifles for the standard trooper have been so configured as to allow only safe and semi-automatic.  The fully automatic feature of this rifle is not allowed except for special situations.

The training course was well planned and thought out.  The excercises were fun as well as practical.  The accuracy of this weapon is really quite amazing.  With a standard metal "peep" sight, trooper's were able to hit targets set out to 300 meters M-16 Computer Course [Click for Larger Image].  Much of the training on the first day centered around the tearing down and reassembly of the rifle, along with getting your own rifle properly sighted in.  The second day worked on longer distances with static targets set at 200 meters.  There was also a course of fire on an automated computer, "pop-up" course.

In cooperation with the National Guard and the officer's at Camp Ripley, many of our training missions now take place at Camp Ripley.    There is a current push to move our complete training facility to Camp Ripley from the Twin Cities location in Shoreview.

Link to the Camp Rilpley Website and take a look around what may be our new Training Center.

As of the Winter of 1999-2000 the decision was made to terminate any further discussion relative to a move to Camp Ripley.  Due to reasons beyond our control the Training Center will stay where it is in Shoreview and there will be modifications made to the current building.  The Rookie Schools and other specialized training will still take place at Camp Ripley.

The 3 pics below are in order as you enter Camp Ripley.  The top photo is of the gate, the middle photo is of the main administration building and the bottom photo is of a dorm.
